*A koha option is offered primarily for community research organisations. We accept koha up to a maximum of $500. Please contact us if you would like to discuss this option.

** From 15 April 2023, unfortunately increased costs and demands mean we have had to increase the fee for Expedited Review. If you are considering an Expedited Review, please contact us beforehand to ensure we have capacity.

Why do we charge fees?

The Aotearoa Research Ethics Committee uses review fees to support our review mahi and to engage in community outreach. We offer our services for seminars and workshops to help:

  • foster an awareness of ethical principles and practices in the research community,
  • support researchers to protect the interests, rights, dignity, welfare, health,and well-being of participants and consumers, and
  • provide educational support in ethics procedure.

Donations

Help us support community researchers in Aotearoa

At AREC, we are proudly committed to supporting community researchers in Aotearoa. As a non-profit, we rely on the contributions we receive from review fees and donations to continue our mahi.

When you support us, you support the continued development of ethical research practices in Aotearoa. The funds you donate go towards our continued provision of koha ethical reviews for community researchers, towards developing community outreach, and towards professional development for committee members.

Aotearoa Research Ethics Trust is a registered charity (#CC59940). All donations to ARET are tax deductible if you have a receipt for your donation. To get a receipt, contact us after you donate with your first and last names, your email address and how much you donated.

Legal Details

Our official name is Aotearoa Research Ethics Trust (ARET) and we trade as Aotearoa Research Ethics Committee (AREC). ARET is an incorporated charitable trust board and a registered charity, so we have to make annual returns and update our information on the Department of Internal Affairs Charities Services website.
